Okay, for those faithful few who still read my blog (thank you T for being one of those), here is the big news...
W and I are coming to visit the US!!!!!!!
He and I went to the Consulate last Monday and he was granted a single entry visa!!!!! WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
We will arrive in December and leave in January. Our visit will be for about 40 days and cover such holiday as Christmas, New Years and most importantly, my birthday!!!!!!
Let me tell you about the consulate visit. We all, my parents, W and I went the night before to be certain to have no driving complications. We stayed with some other pastor friends and went to their church that Sunday night. Monday bright and early we rose (about 0630) and got ready for the visit. All of us had stuff to get done at the consulate. I still had to put to rights some stuff to get my new SSN card and the folks had to get some paperwork notarized. So, I went in with W. Entering I had forgotten the page showing the appointment and I got more nervous than I already was. There was a girl with a list and she confirmed our appointment so that was better. Then we got in a line to pay the fee and the window was supposed to open at 8 but it didn't until 8:30. That let I don't know how many more people in front of us. Oh well, life is a lot of lines here in Brazil. So we entered and got to the next line for W and I needed to go to another sector in the consulate for my stuff. When I got back, W was sitting in line for the pre-interview window. I walked in line with him even though a worker out front said I couldn't. That first window was to check the validity of the passport and to take the forms to be passed on to another window. So, that line went fast and we waited for his number (145) to be called for fingerprints to be taken and he got back his passport and forms. After this waiting, we were waiting for his number to come up for the real interview. When we first sat down to wait for fingerprints they were at number 60-something. The numbers kept rolling along. It was going very steady as there were probably 6 to 10 interview windows. The guy who was in front of W in line gave him some good advise to give the interviewer everything you brought to show because you will not have a second chance to show your paperwork. I was nervous because of what the girl outside said about me being part of the interview. (She said I could cause his visa to be denied if I went up with him.) So I asked W to ask the interviewer if I could be by him. So the numbers kept rolling along at a steady pace and I got nervous, had to fight back nervous tears, thank you Jesus I did not cry. W's number came up and to the window we went. He put all the paperwork in the tray (and it was a lot of paperwork). Our interviewer was a lady and her face was a bit harsh but she has to be, it's her job. W asked if I could be there and said he married an American, our interviewer's face changed and the interview began. She opened up and asked W about 5 or 6 questions and then asked me the rest. At one point I mentioned my parents because it was because of them we met. She wanted to know more about them and I said, they are here would you like to ask them directly. Needless to say she was surprised. I motioned to the folks to come here and there were there lickitysplit. Mom said dad jumped over the barrier chain. The interview continued with all four of in participation. It became a family affair. W was asked the fewest questions of all of us. In the end, as I said, he was granted a tourist visa with a single entry. For future visits we will have to go through the process again but it will be much easier since we will have gone and returned showing we are not a risk. We were all relieved, especially me. I didn't let out a WOO HOO cause we were inside the consulate and didn't want to create a stir. Pray for the passport to make it here safely cause we did not return home with it, just the mail confirmation.
All in all WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! W got his visa and we are going to the US for a visit.
Now pray for his English lessons so he doesn't feel so isolated when we are there.
Love you all and see you in Dec.
Love and hugs from my side of the equator.
